Nereids is a collection designed during my final semester of Fashion Design at Fanshawe College. The entire collection was designed, sourced, drafted and made completely by me. All graduates had their collections featured at our graduating show, Unbound 2018. Nereids was also shown at Runway for Hope's 10th event September 2018.
Nereids is a SS/19 collection that is meant to reflect the beauty and wonder of the sea through fabric, movement and details. Named after the Greek Sea Goddesses, the collection is inspired by all creatures of the sea such as the Nereids themselves, to the Zora race to mermaids.
The fabrics are meant to flow like waves when the wearer moves while the silhouettes express that of a sea goddess by cascading over the body in an elegant way. The collection also features over 65 hours worth of hand sewn sequins which are meant to resemble that of scales. The main fabric inspiring the silhouettes is a gorgeous water-like organza from Giroux's, which matches up beautifully alongside water-like Silk Charmeuse from Mood Fabrics. Small 3D printed motifs are also seen throughout the collection in the shape of a raindrop, which were designed and printed by Miss Messy Mia.
